When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way...
" The Jets"

CH Bydand Paint It Black

(Sire: CH Bydand Start Me Up  Dam: CH Bydand Flashdance)
"Violet"

Height: 10"  Weight 11 lbs.
Violet's OFA page:
www.offa.org/

Violet is Dancer's daughter, and with the retirement of Gremmy, appears to have taken the Alpha position in the Jets, which is surprising, given her quiet personality.
Violet and Julep were raised together, and it was so hard to tell them apart as puppies (see photo below) that we decided to cord Violet.
No sooner had Violet started cording than Julep decided to break to blue, rendering the project unnecessary...too late.

Once you start cording, you either keep going or cut them off, and Violet already had major points toward her AKC championship, so starting over seemed dumb. Showing a young dog in the classes with short little cords was interesting, to say the least...
Violet finished her AKC championship (with a 4-point major under Corky Gauger, bless her heart!) right about the time her cords really started to look good.
When Violet was bred to Keebler, we decided the cords had to go, and a year and a half later, she was back to almost-full-length coat, as you can see in her photo.
A stellar mother who'd honestly much rather raise puppies than go to dog shows, Violet has produced some of our nicest "third-generation" puppies to date.

CH Bydand Satisfaction

(Sire: CH Bydand Start Me Up  Dam: CH Bydand Dragonheart by Lejerdell)
"Julep"

Height: 10"  Weight 10 lbs
Julep's OFA page:
www.offa.org/

Born a day apart, Violet and Julep have always been a team.
However, Julep has never taken herself as seriously as Violet does. Active, smart, and extremely agile, Julep is totally content with noncom status - like her sire Sonic, she seems see leadership as an overrated concept that can seriously curtail one's ability to have fun.
And having fun is what Julep is about!

Julep has all of her mom's intelligence and curiosity, but a lot less of her dominance-seeking traits. (This is not accidental, but represents an effort on our part to maintain a personality balance when making breeding decisions. We firmly believe that breeding decisions should not be one-dimensional (i.e. based only on looks or performance) but on personality as well - for a companion breed, this means producing a dog who is easy to live with. By breeding Puff to Sonic, who does not display any dominance-seeking tendencies, we can keep the puppies within a range that most families can comfortably handle.)
And Julep represents that blend- she is every bit as as elegant as her dam, fast and agile, intelligent and curious, but thanks to Sonic's genes, she stakes no real claim to a high status position within the pack. Which makes her much easier to live with.
Julep achieved her AKC championship easily due in no small part to her charming and outgoing personality - in the ring, she is her sire through and through! Her next project will be earning an HSDAA championship in the coming year.

Like her mom Puff, Julep is a great mother. Unlike her mom, she has the ability to produce cream-colored puppies, which was a total surprise to us.

HSDAA CH Bydand Black Angel
(Sire:CH Bydand Start Me Up   Dam: CH Bydand Dragonheart by Lejerdell)
"Angel"

Height: 10"  Weight: 10 lbs
Angel's OFA page:
www.offa.org/

Angel was aptly named - she has a pure golden retriever temperament (in fact, visitors might assume her name is "Angel, leave it!" due to the fact she simply cannot walk through a door without a toy in her mouth) and she is indeed an angel to live with, exceedingly kind to her younger brethren and strangers alike.

Angel is Julep's litter sister, but (as is often the case with the pups carrying a fair amount of white trim) Angel did not turn blue at a year, but instead kept her deep glossy black color. She's a very feminine bitch, and pretty to watch move.
Her outgoing friendliness makes Angel a natural show dog- she gets excited as soon as she sees the grooming equipment come out, and she loves outings of any kind. (In fact, Angel is one of the few dogs we know who actually likes to go to the vet's office!) Angel earned her HSDAA championship with ease, and enjoyed every minute of competition.
She also loves puppies,
anybody's puppies, and "adopted" her young niece Moonflower, choosing to room with her,  mentoring her in the big and sometimes scary "dog show world", and generally looking out for her in the pack.

HSDAA Jr CH Bydand Just In Time
(Sire: CH Bydand Elfin Magic   Dam: CH Bydand Paint It Black)
"Moonflower"

Height: 9.5" Weight 9.5 lbs
Moonpie's OFA page: www.offa.org/

Whelped in January of 2007, "Moonpie"  represents the fourth generation of the Bydand bitch line- she is Panda's great-granddaughter!
Moonpie has her mom's temperament- quiet confidence without being pushy in the least. Although she is the youngest of the Jets, she seems to be quietly moving up in the pack as she matures, and will probably end up being a high-ranking member.

This isn't particularaly surprising- ethologists have long recognized that the high-ranking members of any pack are invariably the offspring of high-ranking females and Moonpie has a long line of them behind her...
She's a very nicely balanced and incredibly sound young bitch with Charly's gorgeous black silk coat, which is not surprising as she is heavily linebred from him. But her head is pure Keebler- looking at Moonpie face-on, there is absolutely no doubt as to her sire!
Moonpie has earned her HSDAA Jr Championship, and has fulfilled all the health-screening requirements for HSDAA certification. She was bred to Sonic and will be expecting her first litter in August.

Bydand Calypso
(CH Bydand Start Me Up x CH Bydand Dragonheart by Lejerdell)
"Shortcake"

Height: 10 inches Weight 10.5 lbs
Shortcake's OFA page: www.ofa.org

Shortcake is from Puff and Sonic's last litter, and a full younger sister to both Julep and Angel. With a 50/50 chance of breaking to blue, Shortcake, like Angel, stayed glossy black, with a fair amount of white trim.

We suspect the white is an indication that she carries the piebald gene, and will produce parti-colored pups if bred to a male also carrying the gene. We'll find out soon enough, as Shortcake has been bred to Keebler and is also expecting her first litter in August.
