"The Sharks"

HSDAA/AKC CH Bydand Flashdance
(Sire: CH Salemi Charly  Dam: CH Bydand Ms Panda by Lejerdell)
"Dancer"

Height: 10" Weight: 11 lbs
Dancer's OFA page: www.offa.org.

Whelped in January 2001, Dancer is the Alpha of the Sharks, having inherited the position from her mom, Panda, much as might inherit the crown of a small and politically stable monarchy.
Dancer's leadership style is pretty benevolent; she's a happy-go-lucky dog whose chief joy is retrieving. Rarely does one encounter Dancer when she doesn't have something in her mouth, eyes sparkling and tail wagging.

In fact, if she didn't automatically assume the highest available perch both indoors and out, no one would guess Dancer for the Alpha. But the other dogs know, and she commands a surprising amount of respect. Which goes to show you that dogs are infinitely more sensitive to body language and unspoken cues than our species is.
In looks, Dancer is a nicely balanced, compact little package with moderate angulation, much like her dam. Bred to Sonic, she has produced nice sound puppies, five of whom have earned AKC championships to date, with several  more earning their HSDAA championships, which we think is great!!!
Having turned 9 in January of 2010, Dancer is retired from breeding, but has achieved her own HSDAA championship in March out of the Veterans class.

HSDAA/AKC CH Bydand Dragonheart by Lejerdell

(Sire: Salemi Charly  Dam: Kimbriel's Maximum Dividend)
"Puff"

Height: 10"  Weight: 10 lbs
Puff's OFA page:
www.offa.org/
VetGen test results: FF (not carrying for satin coat) cc (not carrying for curly
coat)
Puff holds the Beta position in the Sharks, which is the canine version of the Vice-Presidency, a position she is perfectly comfortable in. Puff was moved into the Sharks primarily because she and Gremmy were locked in an annoying battle for Alpha position in the Jets, and neither appeared willing to be VP. Once Puff joined the Sharks, Dancer's daughter Violet assumed the Beta position in the Jets with no conflict whatsoever - go figure. ("Pack management" is often a matter of rearranging groups and seeing what works.)

Although Puff certainly displays the intelligence to be an Alpha, she's really not cut out for it, temperamentally. Extremely bright and creative to a fault, Puff is, if truth be known, a compulsive risk-taker, which is not really an ideal leadership quality.
In fact, Puff is in trouble more than any dog we own. She has strong prey-drive instincts and the scenting ability of a sporting dog. She's great at tracking, and really,
really wants to be a poultry-herding dog, being fairly obsessed with our flock of Rhode Island Reds.
Puff is a lovely, elegant bitch and earned her AKC championship easily. As a producer, she has been outstanding. Like her sister Gremmy (and their respective daughters!) Puff always free-whelps her puppies with little or no labor and no apparent effort, and she's a stellar mother.
The quality of her offspring is impressive; six Puff kids have earned AKC championships, and three of those have multiple Group placements - two of them owner-handled.
Several of her kids have now earned HSDAA championships, and one of them (CH Bydand In the Mood at Concordia) won Best of Breed at the 2009 HSDAA National Specialty. Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed was Puff herself, who earned her HSDAA championship in 3 shows at the age of 9 1/2.
Puff is retired from breeding.

HSDAA CH Black Birch Carry Back to Bydand

(Sire: CH. Bydand Start Me Up  Dam: Bydand Primrose of Black Birch)]
"CeeBee"

Height: 9"  Weight: 9.5 lbs
CeeBee's OFA page:
www.offa.org/

Yes, CeeBee was indeed named after the Derby winner Carry Back..a great little horse and a long shot if ever there was one.
A Sonic daughter out of  Black Birch Kennel's very pretty parti-colored Panda daughter, Primrose, CeeBee is a female version of Sonic - apparently born without any dominance-seeking tendencies and with absolutely no desire to be in charge of anything.

CeeBee's sheer exuberance for life itself, though, is simply awe-inspiring, and it keeps her out of trouble in both the canine and human worlds.

CeeBee's a compact and well-balanced little bitch, resembling her grandmother Tina more than any other bitch in her pedigree.
She also shares Tina's happy-go-lucky  temperament (also passed down to her through her sire Sonic) and truly has
never had a bad day! This temperament, which we suspect is a result of neotany (the retention of juvenile characteristics into adulthood) is what makes CeeBee so Godawful cute, and why she gets along with everyone she meets, canine or otherwise.  For her, the world is simply one big playground, and CeeBee is proof positive that being the brightest crayon in the box is just not that important when cute will get you farther.
CeeBee easily earned her HSDAA championship in 2009, as did her son, Kirby, who seems to have inherited her silly personality along with her overall cuteness...

HSDAA CH Bydand All That Jazz
(Sire: CH Bydand Start Me Up   Dam: Bydand Fire and Ice)
"Roxie"

Whelped in May of 2007, Roxie is the baby of the family. She's currently working on learning to stand still, at which point we'll probably have more pictures to post.
Roxie is currently a junior member of the Sharks, who tolerate her remarkably well all things considered, although she'd personally prefer to be a Jet, where she thinks there is maybe more opportunity for advancement. (How on earth a bitch this full of herself could have come from sweet little Bunny is a mystery to everyone...)
Now that she has turned two, passed all the health-screening requirements for certification and earned her HSDAA championship, Roxie has been bred to Oscar and is expecting her first litter of puppies in August.
