The Silks pictured below are now retired from breeding, although many of them are still running around here like puppies. They are the grandparents, great-grandparents, and in some cases the great-great-grandparents of the puppies being born now at Bydand. The great temperaments, robust health, overall quality and consistency of our puppies is due in no small measure to the genes of these wonderful dogs. All of them are HSDAA-registered Silk Dogs. All have completed championships in the ring and have been completely health-screened with the results registered with OFA. At Bydand, quality begets quality.

Height: 10 1/2" Weight: 11 lbs Charly's OFA page: http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=737839#animal
Whelped in April of 1997 and imported from Hungary, Charly is, very simply, the cornerstone of the Bydand line. From his Russian-bred dam, Charly inherited the angulation, elegance, flat silky coat, and crozier tail of the true Havana Silk, and he routinely passes these qualities to his offspring. Charly earned his HSDAA championship at the age of ten in two weekends, finishing with a Best of Breed over many of the best young dogs in the breed. As a sire, he has been outstanding, siring dozens of champions and an astonishing percentage of OFA offspring. He has sired multiple Best of Breed winners in the Silk ring, including the 2009 National Specialty winner.
Above and beyond all else, Charly's temperament is incredible. He is without a doubt the sweetest dog we have ever had the pleasure of knowing -- patient, friendly and kind to all he meets. Even when being annoyed by puppies, Charly will never utter a growl - when he's had enough of having his ears and tail pulled, he will just hop onto the nearest chair, which he can still do effortlessly at age 14.
In fact, watching Charly fly around the property like a two-year-old with his classic effortless grace, it's hard to believe he's actually passed his 14th birthday. And in all those years, he's never been to the vet for anything other than routine health-screening and the occasional rabies shot. He's never had a sick day in his life, and has never suffered so much as a minor ear infection.

Whelped in January 2001, Dancer holds the Alpha status among the Bydand girls, having inherited the position from her mom, Panda, much as might inherit the crown of a small and politically stable monarchy. Dancer's leadership style is pretty benevolent; she's a happy-go-lucky dog whose chief joy is retrieving. Rarely does one encounter Dancer when she doesn't have something in her mouth, eyes sparkling and tail wagging.
